Advances in Intermittent-Demand Forecasting (IDf) by John Boylan and Aris Syntetos
Our colleagues John Boylan (Lancaster University) and Aris Syntetos (Cardiff University) — one of the most productive research partnerships in this generation of business forecasting — have been driven to craft major improvements to the methods employed to forecast demands for difficult data series. John and Aris have also presented new perspectives for understanding linkages between forecasting methods and requirements for production and inventory management. Their article is followed by:

  1. Jim Hoover’s review of Intermittent Demand Forecasting: Context, Methods and Applications (Wiley, 2021)
  2. Combination review/commentary on IDf from Stephan Kolassa
  3. Forecasters in the Field interview on how Aris and John’s collaboration began and prospered

Articles

  1. Into the (Largely) Unknown, Part 2: Uses of Fuzzy Forecasting by Paul Goodwin and Steve Morlidge
  2. Decision Trees for Time-Series Forecasting by Evangelos Spiliotis
  3. Decision Trees in Automatic Forecasting Algorithms: The Implementation in Forecast Pro by Sarah Darin
