Congratulations to Pierre Pinson, Editor in Chief for the International Journal of Forecasting who led a dedicated team from Halfspace – an AI, data and analytics Company and Molslinjen A/S, Denmark’s largest domestic ferry company, for nearly a year to prepare their submission, winning the 2024 Edelman Award.

The core part of the case was about forecasting demand (numbers and types, e.g., cars, trucks, etc) for passenger ferries up to a year in advance, and with continuous updates any time new information becomes available. Such forecasts are used as input to operations planning, staffing, procurement, etc. The work and underlying approach may make a broad and substantial impact to the passenger ferry industry, globally. The intense competition and the high caliber of submissions from other renowned organizations made the victory even more remarkable.  The other five competing teams were ALDI SÜD, American Airlines, McDonald’s China, Tata Steel and Transvision B.V.

The Molslinjen/Halfpace winning case showcased their exceptional work in the OR and Analytics community. Their dedication to excellence and innovation, as well as the quality of the presentation and case videos, set them apart from others. This achievement is the first time ever for a Danish team to win.

Congratulations to Pierre and the team from the Halfspace/Molslinjen team for their outstanding accomplishment.
