The IIF Board of Directors is pleased to announce John E. Boylan, Professor at Lancaster University, with the title of IIF Fellow, as a distinguished researcher in the field of forecasting.

John Boylan is Professor of Business Analytics at Lancaster University and a former Head of its Department of Management Science. He has PhD and MSc degrees from the University of Warwick. He is an Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Operational Research Society and was Foresight’s Supply Chain Forecasting Editor from 2005 to 2013. His main research interests have been concerned with the interface between forecasting and inventory management. He is best known for his work on intermittent demand forecasting and, together with Aris Syntetos, published a book on this subject in 2021. Some of his research has been implemented in open-source and commercial software, in use by major companies across the world. He has previously served as a Director of the Institute and was General Chair of the 42nd International Symposium on Forecasting, held in Oxford in 2022.
